Houston, TX – Disney’s Aladdin JR. is playing on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Wortham Theater Center. The spectacular 60-minute musical, designed for middle school-aged performers, is based on the 1992 Disney film and the 2014 Broadway adaptation. What sets this year’s production apart is its cast of over 200 3rd-8th grade students—along with innovative set pieces, dazzling costume design created in partnership with local artists, and interactive elements that invite the audience to be part of the magic. The cast and crew are led by Superintendent Ashley Miller, Fine Arts Director Christopher Kinsey, and Theater Director Bashirah Perine.
In December 2023, RSPA presented an electrifying performance of Beauty and the Beast JR. to a sold-out Wortham Theater audience. The scholars made a triumphant return in May 2025, showcasing an original musical based on Bradford Deyon’s children’s book “Toothrina Von Twinkle, A Fairy’s Tale,” which fans continue to rave about to this day. Superintendent Ashley Miller is incredibly proud of her students for their hard work, dedication, and courage to step onto the stage and shine.
“This year, we embraced the theme A Whole New World as a reflection of our goals, pushing boundaries, exploring new opportunities, and inspiring our scholars to dream bigger than ever before. This year’s performance is a beautiful representation of that vision brought to life,” says Miller.
“What our audience is about to experience is far more than a musical—” says Christopher Kinsey, “it is the result of the unwavering commitment of our students and fine arts team that grows stronger with each rehearsal, each lesson, and each moment of discovery along the way”.

Adapted especially for young performers, this musical includes favorite Alan Menken songs such as “Friend Like Me,” “A Whole New World,” and “Prince Ali,” as well as wonderful new songs added for the Broadway production. With new, colorful characters and nonstop adventure, Aladdin JR. is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for all ages!
