Hello RSPA Families,
Spring is almost here, and March is filled with exciting opportunities for our scholars and staff. With Spring Break right around the corner, we are also entering an important academic season as STAAR Testing approaches.
At RSPA, we remain committed to academic excellence. In PreK–2nd Grade, we are continuing our focus on strengthening reading comprehension and math numeracy skills. Parents, your support at home makes a tremendous difference. Please spend time reading with your scholar daily and practicing basic math skills such as number recognition, addition, subtraction, and counting. These foundational skills build confidence and prepare scholars for future academic success.
In grades 3rd–6th, we are intensifying STAAR preparation and individualizing instruction to ensure mastery of the TEKS. Mock STAAR Testing for grades 3rd–8th will take place from March 3rd through March 24th. During this time, please ensure your scholar gets a good night’s rest, arrives at school on time, and eats a healthy breakfast. Your partnership plays a critical role in helping our scholars perform their best.
It’s also Rodeo Time! Our scholars will attend the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, with PreK and Kindergarten attending on March 16th, 1st and 2nd grade attending on March 17th, and 3rd–8th grade attending on March 20th. Please ensure scholars are dressed appropriately for the event. If you are interested in volunteering, kindly reach out to your scholar’s teacher for more information.
Attendance continues to be a priority. Our motto is “98% is Great,” and we are challenging scholars to achieve 100% attendance every Friday. Every student present on Fridays will be placed in a drawing for a gift card. Additionally, students with 3 or fewer absences for the 2nd semester are eligible to attend our Splash Day Party in May. Consistent attendance is directly connected to academic growth and overall success. Don’t forget, 3 tardies count as one absence.
Report cards will be sent via ParentSquare on Friday, March 27th. Parents, we encourage you to check your scholar’s backpack daily, monitor homework completion, and have ongoing conversations about what they are learning. Encouraging your scholar to give 100% effort in every class makes a lasting impact. If you have not registered your ParentSquare account, please email communications@rhodesschool.org.
We are celebrating our House System and taking house yearbook pictures on March 4th. We are asking everyone to wear their house shirts and show their House pride!!!
Safety is a top campus priority, and we will be practicing a Lockdown Drill this month. Please look for our notification in ParentSquare.
As always, thank you for allowing us to invest in your scholar and for being an essential part of the RSPA family. Together, we will continue building excellence in academics, attendance, and school culture.
Growing Students with Excellence Every Day!

Congratulations to our Scholars & CREW Member of the Month!
Hello Parents!
As we approach the end of the 3rd nine weeks, STAAR testing season is quickly approaching. This time of year can be stressful for many students, and it’s normal for anxiety levels to rise as testing draws near. Because of this, it’s especially important to check in with your child about their overall mental and emotional well-being. You can begin conversations by asking open-ended questions such as
- How are you feeling about school?
- Is anything stressing you out? or
- What part of the STAAR test do you feel most worried about?
Encouraging your scholar to express their feelings helps them understand that their emotions are valid and that they have a strong support system both at home and at school.
During guidance lessons for the upper grades, we will focus on helping students understand what anxiety looks and feels like, including the physical and emotional signs they may experience. We will talk about how the brain reacts to stress and spend time practicing healthy coping strategies that students can use whenever they begin to feel overwhelmed. These strategies include
- simple breathing exercises
- positive self-talk
- grounding techniques and
- confidence-building approaches to test preparation
The goal is to help students recognize anxiety as a normal emotion and equip them with tools to manage it effectively so they feel ready and confident heading into the STAAR tests.
Academically, it is important for families to continue staying connected with their child’s teachers. Teachers can provide insight into specific objectives or standards that your scholar may find challenging and can help you understand what kinds of practice or reinforcement would be most beneficial. Working closely with teachers also helps families develop a plan for additional support, which may involve school tutorials, small-group instruction, online practice resources, or private tutoring. Consistent communication ensures your child feels both academically prepared and emotionally supported.
Be sure to join us for Coffee with the Counselor on Thursday, March 5th. During this session, we will explore the signs of anxiety in children and how test-related stress may appear at home and in the classroom. We will talk through practical strategies you can use at home to help your child remain calm and confident during testing season. This meeting will also provide guidance on creating routines that support emotional well-being and academic success, as well as information about the resources our school offers for additional support. It will be a great opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and learn new ways to support your scholar during this busy time.
See you then!
Best Regards,
Jassitte Gibson, M.Ed.

March News from Ms. Randolph
Greetings, RSPA Families,
March encourages us to stay focused, engaged, and ready for growth. As we move forward together, this is a wonderful time to stay connected, informed, and involved in the many opportunities happening at Rhodes School for the Performing Arts. Our shared commitment continues to strengthen the village that supports our scholars each day.
As Spring Break approaches, I encourage our families to take advantage of the beautiful spring weather by getting outside and creating meaningful moments together. Whether it’s planting flowers or fresh vegetables, visiting a local park, riding bikes, or simply enjoying the fresh air, these small experiences can be refreshing for both the mind and body. Encouraging our scholars to unplug, explore, and stay active during the break helps them return recharged and ready to finish the school year strong.
“Progress happens when preparation meets opportunity..” ✨
Thank you for your continued partnership, encouragement, and trust. Your involvement makes a meaningful difference, and I am grateful to walk this journey alongside you.
